So two "finished" things happened this week. First, a dropped couple of stitches (at least two, probably more) led to my shawl heading to the frog pond.

To be fair, I had been debating about whether to frog it and start over on larger needles or not...now I don't have to make that choice. But, this next time around, I'm going to use lifelines. If I get around to it.

I also finished up my Vanillaish Rainbow Socks. They're currently drying on sock blockers. I finished everything but the Kitchenered toe on Thursday and waited until Friday afternoon to take care of the rest and weave in the ends. But, they're done and they're hand-dyed by me and lovely and squoooooshy :)

12. Gamer Bag: started September 28, 2017
13. Paradiddle Prototype: started October 19, 2017

It occurs to me that I've not found a project bag with my Fall in San Francisco prototype in it. Upon further viewing of the project page, I've noticed that I frogged the project...and I never did anything else with it. So, I might have to think about moving that project but for right now, I'm leaving it alone. But it's frogged and the yarn has gone missing and......yeah.

But in actual knitting, I've stared a third ball of yarn on the Garter Stitch Baby Blanket. Depending on the finished size, I might be donating this one to Project Linus. Little Man has at least two, probably three blankets from PL from various hospital visits/stays and I need to get one back (at least). I was working along on the project here and there and while I was out with friends on Friday evening, I came to the end of the second ball. I was a little surprised, actually.

Other than that, it was just the two projects above in the FOs section.

I feel like this week went by in a blur of sorts, which isn't wrong. It was a rough week for Little Man's school environment. We're still working on how to handle everything with our friend's death. Right now, her husband and daughter are going through the motions. Thankfully, his mother is here through the end of the month. The daughter seems okay, actually. She's only seven years old, though, so it might just be her brain's inability to properly process everything. I mean, obviously she knows what happened, but she doesn't seem to be wallowing in her grief, which is good. The husband, however, is under an extreme amount of stress and even though he doesn't say much about it, you can just see it.

In addition to that, we had another wallop at school. A 4th grader named Kaeden passed away this past Tuesday from complications of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vein stenosis. He was the surviving twin of 22.5 week premies and had a hoard of medical issues as a result. He had PH and PVS and I think it was in 2011 he had one of his lungs removed. His prognosis was not good and his family was told that his only chance of survival was a lung transplant. Well, there are only a few hospitals in the country that perform those surgeries and because his was a pediatric case on top of that, the chances of him actually getting new lungs was pretty slim. He and his mom moved to Texas to be near the hospital that would be able to perform the transplant while his dad and siblings stayed here (the kids had school, obviously). Unfortunately, he started getting sick(er) and there was nothing that could really be done about it other than making him comfortable.

This was difficult for Little Man's class because they all knew this kid, even though he was 3 grades ahead of them. Last year, Little Man's class was paired with Kaeden's class for reading buddies so all the 1st graders in his class (because he's in a K/1 class) knew him. It's just been a mess.

To put icing on the school cake, the teachers are looking at going on strike. Again. They've been without a contract for 500+ days...basically, the last two school years have been without contract. They can't come to an agreement. The teachers want to be paid properly, with which I have no issue (the teachers in Little Man's district are paid anywhere from $6-$10k less than surrounding districts), the district says they don't have the money, and it's getting messy.

So, two deaths and a potential teacher strike are what we're dealing with on the school front right now.

But, in happier news, Little Man has two new teeth growing in:

I apologize for this abysmal photo. Little Man came out of school on Friday and said something was hurting in his mouth. I told him it was his new teeth but he didn't believe me so I took this photo to show him. You can see the two adult ones on the bottom in the middle. The two on either side of those were both loose and the adult teeth are growing in behind them. Last night, he lost the one on the left side of this photo. He was eating dinner and it got really loose...and as usual, he had me do the dirty work. So, he's got another gap in his mouth.

Husband stayed home from work on Monday because his back was bothering him. He took this photo of Stormageddon on the couch, eating a banana.

He was just sitting there, behaving himself, eating a banana. It was kind of perfect.

I also found this little guy on Monday. We have two rogue watermelons that grew by our rosebush. In the spring, we did a 72-ct plant starter thing with various plants. We only had a couple sprout (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and maybe something else) but nothing actually took to growing properly. So, I took the mesh wrappers off the pods and dumped them into the rosebush planter, seeds and all. Well........we had something start growing once it was in there. We weren't sure what it was, other than it was a vine plant. We had tried watermelons, squash, and pumpkins. We didn't think much of it but then two watermelons grew. So, one of them was sitting in a little plastic tub that had gotten some water in from some rain last weekend. I went to dump it and found this guy. He was maybe 4" long, so not very large, and he wasn't crazy. He moved around and I showed him to Stormageddon (Little Man was at school) before I released him into the rosebush area.

I have no idea what's going on with this photo. Little Man came in with his masks and asked to take a mask selfie.

This was the only other thing that happened this week. This is not the finished style. My hair is now back to brown (though the ends still have a slight green/blue tinge to them) and I had about 4" cut off. My hair was really long and it was at that weird point where it was hard to get a brush through it. So, I took care of it, as one does :) I might take a photo of the finished look. Or not. I haven't decided yet.

I hope you've all had a lovely weekend :)

  2. so sad to hear of your son's schoolmate. And another school strike? oh my goodness. Your face in your pic says it all - enough already! Glad though you are taking time to do something for yourself. Sorry about the frogpond, but I bet you will feel better restarting with something that yarn and you will love!
